Bernd is a transactional lawyer specialising in advising clients on significant UK and cross border M&A and joint venture transactions, often subject to documents which need to stand scrutiny under more than one legal system.
He has acted extensively for management teams and entrepreneurs on private equity transactions.
Bernd has developed a specialist practice in the Libyan market. He was heavily involved in the modernisation of the Libyan banking system as the lead legal adviser to the Central Bank of Libya on its banking privatisation programme. He also led the Dawsons team which advised Banco Espirito Santo of Portugal on its investment (completed in April 2010) in Aman Bank for Commerce & Investment, the first acquisition by a foreign partner of a minority equity stake conferring full management control over a private sector Libyan bank.
Bernd is a graduate of the University of Durham and qualified as a solicitor in 1982. He heads the Dawsons Corporate practice.
